COVID-19 Precautions and Pathogen Realism
COVID-19 continues to present a health risk, and the current minimalization of the pandemic in the absence of long-term data is reminiscent of early discourse around the AIDS epidemic. There is a 1 in 10 chance that any Covid infection, even in a vaccinated individual with mild symptoms can result in Long Covid, which can affect numerous body systems causing life-long changes. In order to care for our community, these precautionary measures will be in effect until further notice:
- Please mask indoors and at any large gatherings during the week leading up to camp. Good quality respirators and at-home rapid tests are available FOR FREE through MaskBlocABQ
- Please take at least one COVID-19 test before you pack your car and start driving to the campground. Sequential testing 48 hours apart helps reduce false negatives.
- Always keep a mask with you and offer to wear a mask if you join a campsite or group to make friends or hang out
- If you are not vaccinated, always wear a mask in group settings
- If you are sick, or have unexplained health changes, stay home
- If you have been recently exposed to COVID, stay home
- If you are feeling sick during the campout, please let the on-site medic know
- The medic will supply you with a rapid COVID test and take your temperature
- If your test result is positive we will ask you to go home
- If your test result is negative, but you are showing two or more COVID-like symptoms* or have a fever (100.4°F or higher), we will ask you to go home
There may be people who are unable to be vaccinated. Please help us practice responsible community engagement by assessing risk and navigating boundaries honestly.
